10 Adults, 4 Kids, One Dog, No Drowning

That was how David described our recent BBQ. 7 of the adults and 3 kids were Malaysians. It was a record of sorts for us as we have never had any Malaysian who is not a family member at our home parties before.

The best part is all of them live in our neighborhood! I'd mentioned them in a Chinese New Year post, met at their party but only got around to having them over a couple of weekends ago. It was a lot of fun ....

For those who have met Janice, my neighbor when I was living in Sri Hartamas - Jennifer is her cousin! Amazing, right? How much smaller can the world be??

Rita,
As transport get faster and internet connects people from all nook and corners of the world in almost real time, the world seems smaller. To meet someone you know in another part of the world is no more a great wonder.
About my blog, dont access it via your reader as I have canceled my latest blog.

Dropping by to say Hi!! Spent the last 20 minutes catching up with what's happening. Read about your dad's tenth anniversary - reminded me so much of my own dad - he's been gone over twenty years. Still miss him!

Hello :)
Waah, I bet many Malaysian gossips being highlighted during the BBQ ;)
That BBQ looks simple, but heck; you don't need a fancy one to enjoy with friends. What matters, you guys get together :)
Have a nice day.

Haha, after viewing the photos, I understand the "No Drowing" part. Are those pineapple cubes on the Oriental Pork Kebabs?

It looks like you had a lot of fun bar-be-que'ing. About blog element, I don't think I can use it with word press :( I'll have to check if there is a same application that will work with word press. Enjoy your day, Rita.

Well-said, Zawi. It was more surprising that I didn't meet or know of Jennifer until after we've both lived in the same small town for two years!

By the way, transport and the internet is bringing Pak Idrus here in a couple of weeks! I just got a text message from him. :)

Your blog was still locked for me yesterday and I've reported again. I think it could be some settings I've changed as it is happening to two other blogs as well. Sigh.

Hey Bento Pet! So nice to see your name here. I too have slacked in my blog reading and I am not even into daily bento creations.

I'm glad my post on dad brought back nice memories of yours for you. We will always miss them regardless of time past.

Not much gossip, Akmal. We already covered it in our earlier first session. Haha!

Still it was a nice get-together.

Hi Janice ... The drowning note came up as 3 of the kids took turns to slip down the lower middle of the jacuzzi. Some tear drops fell out of shock and they bravely stayed in to have more fun!

Yes, the yellow cubes are pineapple, goes really well with pork.

Pi ... You are too funny and spot on! Lola was guarding the lives of the food!!

Farina ... I used to take my pendek-ness and petiteness in stride and don't let it bother me but in this tanah-air gergasi, not so easy to do!

Hey Cath ... Fini-dini is a marinade/sauce with Guam origins. It is a mixture of soy sauce, vinegar, lemon juice, onions and peppers. We usually do an agak-agak version but this time I tried my sister-in-law's recipe. It was wonderful! The marinade pre-cooks the chicken which makes the meat tender when grilled. YUM!

The tub is a good investment, Cath. We are having less stress, little aching bones and plenty of massages!

Hey Yatie ... Yes, it was fun. Unlike the sunshine state, we have few BBQ opportunities here, so try to make the most of it. The rain threatened to appear a few times that day but stayed away. Phew!

Lesley ... David just asked me what is "kaki". :) He did most of the grilling and is really good at it. I just did the marinade and skewing, follow recipes - measure to measure. LOL!

Get the tub, Lesley. Mishu will love it!

Hey Aunty Rita,

Haha! This jacuzzi reminds me of the time I went to Awana Kijal, Terengganu for a conservation project for the press under Nokia.

It was fully sponsored by Nokia, and each journalist (I went under The Star's BRATs (Bright Roving Annoying Teens), a young journalis program) had their own room, and smack in one corner was a bathtub/jacuzzi.

I wanted to have a nice soak after travelling the whole day, so I filled up the tub, then realised they had no rubber mat.

Coincidentally, the housekeeping-cart was just down the corridor, so I tottered to them to ask for a rubber mat...

Like Kak Farina, scared I'd fall asleep inside, and also being pendek, that would be not-so-good lar!

Anyway, I asked the lady for a rubber mat, and she looked at me, perplexed...I repeated my request (in English and BM) a couple of times, slowly, and pointed to the tub (of the room she was cleaning) and finally she nodded...

I thought: Ah, finally!

She returned seconds later...with a condom...

I nearly fainted! *Lol*

Here I thought I had done a splendid job miming to her what I wanted!

Hi Rita, it seem you are having a great time entertaining and enjoy doing it. I think we have the same gene.

As for your guest, what an interesting bunch. What about that Raccoon, did she not get an invitation too.

Have a nice day.

Thank you, Jacqui. The tub is a good investment. We sleep better and have less body aches. :)

Hi Mary Kate ... It is always a pleasure to visit your blog. I always feel like I am on a tour of another great place.

Thank you for the compliments. Early 20s? I wish!! The aging signs are hidden under the cap and by good photography by my husband. No secrets at all. I do feel young most of the time though. It comes from pure vanity. Haha!

Rita Ho said...

Daph ... I almost died laughing at your comment! The housekeeping lady must get a lot of request for condoms.

You won't be doing any ordering if we ever go dining in a Greek restaurant. LOL!

Rita Ho said...

Kids will have a ball at all your BBQs, Kerp. And, their moms probably won't bring them along. Haha!

Rita Ho said...

Hi Mush ... Yes, it is fun to have Malaysians living nearby. We gotta go Manglish plus talk and laugh loudly once in a while. LOL! I am meeting the group again later this afternoon at Farrah's BBQ and tomorrow they are coming over to help me cook curry laksa. :)

You have Malaysians within regular visiting distance, right?

Rita Ho said...

Hi Pak Idrus ... It is David who shares your "entertaining" gene. He loves cooking, drinking and telling stories with friends. I don't mind especially in small groups.

Shhh .. on the raccoon. Otherwise, it may await your arrival in a a week or so. Haha!

We had so much fun ;). The kids can't wait to come and have another dip tomorrow!
